Self Hypnosis

The art of self hypnosis is getting yourself relaxed to a point where your subconscious mind is more open so you are more open to suggestion, and then using repetition with those suggestions to change your thought patterns, ultimately changing your habits.

The difference between hypnosis and self hypnosis...

With hypnosis, someone is usually guiding you through your session. With self hypnosis, you are doing it yourself. Most people still prefer hypnosis because the hypnotist has spent a lot of time in school learning the essential techniques.

Just as most people prefer to have a lawyer represent them in court, instead of representing themselves because the attorney has spent a lot more time practicing law than his client.

Self hypnosis is still very effective, but like everything else, it takes practice. I compare it to the gym. You have to start out lifting ten pounds, until you can lift twenty, then thirty, etc. Your imagination is like a muscle, the more you use it the stronger it will become, which is why I like the gym analogy.

As a general rule, it is best not to watch for the state of hypnosis. It's like watching to see if you are asleep, the longer you watch, the longer you stay awake.

So, let's get started...

There are 4 parts we will discuss in order to achieve your desired results, starting with...

Induction

Start by setting aside some time preferably 20 to 30 minutes in a spot where you will not be disturbed.Allow yourself to block out outside noises either with some soft music or using a radio on the static wave in order to clear your thoughts.

Get comfortable where you are. Close your eyes and take 2 initial deep, cleansing breaths.

Allow your mind to focus on a part of your body, maybe your eyes. Tell yourself to relax your eyes, that you are beginning to feel comfortable, this feeling is moving through out your face and into your forehead to the back of your neck. Move it down, allowing this deep sense of comfort to envelope your entire body.

If there are any areas that you feel you are holding more stress, stay there for a moment, allowing the sense of comfort to sink in and let go of any stress. When you are fully relaxed, tell yourself to imagine a comfortable spot in nature that is both safe and completely free of stress.

Deepening

The countdown is the simplest self hypnosis technique. Begin by hearing yourself count down from 100 back to one.

Remind yourself to go deeper for every ten counts. This will allow your mind to become more focused. Remember not to count to fast.

When you find yourself thinking about something else, this is a signal that you are ready to start your suggestions. If you don't feel relaxed enough, start counting again with the last number you remember saying.

When you are ready, it is time for...

Suggestions

Write your suggestions down before you start. You will want to do this so you can structure your suggestions to be more effective. And also, so you will know what to say, once you are in your self hypnosis session.

Always write your suggestions in the present tense, suggest action, and be positive. For example, don't say, "I will have the ability to stop my headache." Instead, say, "My head feels clear and calm."

Remember to use emotional, action words and be specific. This is what your subconscious mind understands. For example, "I will lose weight by cutting out greasy foods" won't cut it; say, "I enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables. I feel full and satisfied, when I am done eating."

Use Repetition. The more you repeat your suggestion, the more affect it will have on your subconscious, hence the saying....

"Repetition Strengthens and Confirms".

Determing your learning style can also help you with your suggestions.

Awakening

Count to three. I know it sounds too easy, but this is pretty much the (self hypnosis)industry standard for awakening.

For example,on the count of three, I will be fully awake. Counting up now, 1, I am waking up now, feeling refreshed. 2, I have just washed my eyes with fresh, spring water. And 3, I am fully awake, refreshed and energized, ready for a great day.

If you are doing your self hypnosis sessions at bedtime, it is okay to go to sleep. Just be sure, to signal the end of your session in some way, so your mind will be able to focus more effectively.

----Sidebar----

Don't obsess on how self hypnosis works. I would be lying to you if I thought I could tell you how it works. We know that self hypnosis works , but no one knows exactly how...yet!

----Sidebar----

If you have any questions, or if you have come up with any techniques that have worked for you, I would love to hear about it.

Remember, no matter how you use self hypnosis, always...

MAKE a great day.
